Habitat for Humanity is an ecumenical Christian organization
in which future homeowners and volunteers team up to build a house. Donors
such as Presbyterian churches provide the funds for the materials, land, and
miscellaneous expenses of construction, and the homeowners' 300 hours of work
(sweat equity) serves as the down payment on the house. The homeowners pay
back the total cost of the materials in a twenty-year, no-interest loan;
these funds go toward the construction of future Habitat for Humanity homes.
