Bible Study Resources
The Bible Basics Class at Emmanuel
Presbyterian
If you are looking
for ways to deepen your study of the Bible, here are some resources that will
be helpful:
- The
“Study Edition” of a good “formal correspondence” translation of the Bible, such as New Revised Standard Version, New International Version, or the King James Version. The
“Study Edition” will have more detailed footnotes and explanations.
- For more information on the different translation versions available,
the Upper Room website has a clear and even-handed article summarizing the
differences between the versions on their website. To read it, click here.
- A
Bible Dictionary. A Bible Dictionary has entries on the
people, events, subjects, and ideas of biblical times. It is an invaluable resource for digging
deeper into the biblical text.
Bible Dictionaries use Scriptural quotations from a particular
Bible version/translation, so it is recommended that you choose a Bible
Dictionary that matches the Bible translation that you use. For those using NRSV Bibles, I recommend
the HarperCollins Bible Dictionary,
Paul J. Achtemeier ed, ISBN #0060600373.
